PICKLE (2021)
A concept sketched in 2019 that I shelved and dragged my feet on. Painted in 2021.
Original Sketch. Notice that it’s huge for a pickle; that pickle is really the size of an overgrown zucchini.
Approximate Color Concept from Sketch.

Working out the kinks on the model, but it's gonna be offered as an NFT shortly because ¯ \ _ (ツ) _ / ¯
Note: I respect Rothko’s paintings now whereas before I disregarded them as modern art trash. Some of them are huge, like ten feet by twelve feet. Respect.

An Open Letter to Trader Joe's
September 1st, 2021
Dear Trader Joe's,
Thank you guys for all the pickle products this summer. I love pickles a lot. I'd curse a lot more to emphasize this point but it wouldn't be very 'joe's of me. You guys inspired me to finish painting an old sketch of mine where the main focal point was a pickle. I took a kind of method actor approach to painting it, actively surrounding myself with jars of pickles and eating anything and everything pickle-themed until I became more pickle than man. An artist must understand their art, and at its most formative points, the very root of my soul had begun to pickle, allowing me to capture the emotion of a cucumber, metamorphosized in glass and plastic cocoons and released a refreshing, tangy,
As did I grow and become a new man, fueled by nighttime sojourns to the fridge to eat yet another soaked gherkin, no longer held by the mistakes of the past, no longer tied to a future long foregone and forgotten to all but me. I emerge, jars of pickles in one hand, a sweet bread and butter pickle gripped in the other, resolved to find the light of tomorrow beyond the cold glow of my refrigerator.
Thank you. I really like pickles.
Love,
Martin
